1 Man Arrested After Car Theft Suspects Try to Drive Through Police Barricade in Toronto

One man has been arrested and another suspect remains at large after police say they stole two luxury cars from a parking garage and tried to escape by ramming the vehicles through a police barricade in the Toronto’s downtown area.
At around 10 a.m. on Sept. 17, Toronto Police responded to a report of a car theft in progress near King Street West and Portland Street. Officers arrived at an underground parking garage where they confronted two suspects who were attempting to flee in stolen vehicles.
The suspects tried to plow through a barricade of police vehicles that had blocked the underground exits, police said.
One of the suspects, identified as 35-year-old Kevaughn Coore of Toronto, was unable to break through the barricade and was arrested at the scene.
The second suspect escaped but abandoned the stolen vehicle nearby. Police described him as a man between 20 and 30 years old, standing roughly between 5‘10” to 6’ tall, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing all black, including a black baseball hat, a black hoodie, and a surgical mask.
Following Coore’s arrest, Toronto Police executed a search warrant for a location in Toronto. During the search, police discovered two firearms, including a Mini Glock 43 handgun and a Smith and Wesson Airweight revolver.
In addition to the firearms, officers recovered a vehicle master key, computer laptops, break-and-enter tools commonly used in auto thefts, numerous fraudulent identification documents, and forged licence plates.
Coore faces 18 charges, including multiple firearms-related offences, as well as theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, obstructing a peace officer, unlawful possession of an automobile master key, and using a forged document. He was scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19 at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
Toronto police have responded to multiple cases of car theft in recent weeks.
